A pine beetle infestation of epic proportions is being combated in Honduras by the country’s army. The southern pine beetle, or more formally Dentroctomus frontalis, is a threat to Honduras’s environment. As their name suggests, the pine beetles destroy pine trees. The pesky beetles have eaten their way through roughly one million acres of  pine trees. Though pine beetles are not uncommon in Honduras, this year’s infestation of pine beetles is worse than in the past.
