By increasing a hunger hormone in mice, researchers found that they aged slower. The researchers increased the levels of a hunger hormone known as gherlin by giving the mice rikkunshito, which is a Japanese medicine. Two mice that had their lifespans shortened as well as one mouse that had a normal lifespan lived longer after being given the rikkunshito.
